Forklift Safety - Part A

Know the Rules
• Know the capacity and operating characteristics of your forklift.
• Never modify or remove any part of the equipment.
• Buckle-up your seat belt/restraint (if provided) before you start up.
• Keep others away from your operation.
• Never use attachments unless specifically authorized by the manufacturer of the equipment.
• Carry the load low - at minimum clearance.
• Always lower the forks to the ground and set parking brake before dismounting. If you must leave machine unattended shut off engine, cycle hydraulic controls and remove ignition key.
• Understand the rules covering traffic at your job site.
• Know what all signs, flags and markings mean.
• Understand hand, flag, whistle, and siren or bell signals.
• Know when to use lights, turn signals, flashers and horn or siren.
